My NX Settings are Different than the Other Guy’s Settings. Why?

saratech-my-nx-settingsYes, I’m sure we‘ve all seen and had to work with drawings and models that had defaults that weren’t laid out for the team before a program was embarked on. We’ve also seen drawings with different line colors, dimension settings and even worse, text settings that were all over the board from drawing sheet to sheet and drawing to drawing. Now keep in mind, that if the drawing or model files had already been finished before the company standards were put in place, you would still need to fix them as an on-needed basis or have an Individual/Team dedicated to cleaning these little gems up. So, I’ll back up a little. Yes, I’m guilty too! Much like a newbie starting into the field I would have that evil seasoned red pencil checker that would dole out manual drawings with what looked like an evening with Mike Meyers at the checker board. It always seemed like there were more red marks on the drawing then actual notes, dimensions or ever views. How nice those days are over and I do appreciate the point those checkers had….. even though it seemed to be a 0.9 mechanical pencil that was embedded into their cold cyborg hand. Today as an NX Administrator or User, you have the dubious job of collecting, maintaining company standards and best practices. NX has a way to centralize these tasks with seamless access to NX environment variables, Customer Defaults, individual user setting, toolbars and customer templates. NX contains customizations that eliminate the need to make modifications within the NX installed directory or to the environment variables within the system properties dialogue. I assure you, configuring your NX custom defaults will save time, countless work hours and even armored trucks of money.
