Violet's Engineering Wonderland

Recently, we were told to start writing blog posts, and while that may be fine and dandy for most people, that tends to not be the case for most engineers. We’re not writers, in fact, most of us chose engineering with the happy thoughts we would get away from writing and never have to do it again. Then, I became an intern at Saratech, and guess what, four months into my career as an engineer, and I have to write. So I began my journey into the unknown world of writing with a looming deadline and a couple of failed writing attempts…all of them leading to nothing. So, after dropping into my boss’s office and talking it over with him, he provided me with some valuable insight and instructed me to just write, “Write about nothing.” I am going to take his advice, and in doing so; I have been freed to share my journey into the CAD world.
I met my boss and some of my present colleagues at a career fair in college with zero knowledge of Solid Edge or any other CAD system. After talking to them for less than a couple of minutes, I knew I wanted to learn Solid Edge. So in a sense, this is my journey throughout the CAD world, particularly Solid Edge. I think I want to call it ‘Violet’s Engineering Wonderland’.
When I started learning Solid Edge at Saratech, I knew almost nothing. Here I am four months later with a lot more to learn, but I can now model most parts, assemble, and I can make drafts. I have to say, the best part for me is the Synchronous technology because I hate tedious jobs and Synchronous makes it un-tedious. I can grab things and drag them, and what if it looks weird? Well I can grab it and drag it the other way. Synchronous is the best friend I never had. She doesn't judge or scold and if I do something wrong I can almost hear her say "Hey don't worry girl, just grab me and drag me the other way" and well, we get along that way.
And so, I realize I have a long way to go into this journey but at least I have my best friend Synchronous with me. Welcome to Violet’s Engineering Wonderland; where a third year engineering student will go through the journey of learning the ways of Solid Edge and rant about it, but more than likely, I will write about nothing.
