FEMAP 11.1.1 New Features

It’s always nice when a new version of FEMAP is released so I can check out the new features. While the 11.1.1 nomenclature might make it appear like this is just a minor error correction release, this actually has a good set of new features.  If you already have 11.1, I’d recommend upgrading to 11.1.1 since it has some important error corrections as well as a nice set of new features.

Some of the new features are:
1. The File, Merge command introduced in FEMAP 11.1 can now merge geometric entities from one model into another, in addition to the FEM data supported in 11.1
2. A new Geometry, Solid, Fill Hole command has been added that will allow you to create a solid within another solid by filling a hole.  The only input is to select a single curve of the hole to be filled.
3. Performance graphics will now display the material and element directions on planar elements
4. The geometry kernel has been updated to Parasolid 26.1
5. The NX and MSC NASTRAN interfaces have been updated to add support for writing TEMP(LOAD) by selecting a load set using the Temperature drop down menu in the Boundary Conditions dialog.  This is helpful for including temperature loads using a different Load when using NASTRAN LOAD combinations for structural loads.
6. There is added support when reading forces, stresses and strains for CBUSH elements when importing the NASTRAN .f06 file. Random output (PSDF, RMS, CRMS) is not supported when reading from the NASTRAN .f06 file.
7. The ANSYS interface has added support for reading TARGE170, CONTA173 and CONTA174 as connection regions. Also, it creates connections and connection properties from other data in the file.  Lastly, there is added support for reading NSEL, ESEL, CM entries to create Groups
8. The DYNA Interface has the following new additions:
9. And, for those of you writing FEMAP API programs, there is a new Stop API Tool command on the Custom Tools Toolbar or the Quick Access Menu (Right Mouse Button).  This will stop the currently running API program, even if it has been locked using API calls.  This has already been useful to me in my API programming work.  I know, it’s surprising I found a bug in my code, but it can happen to any of us.
10. There is a variety of new and updated API calls. To see the full list visit the OLE/COM API section of the “What’s New in version 11.1.1” in the online help.
As always, feel free to contact Saratech if you have any questions on any of these FEMAP features.
