Working with Inventor Files in Solid Edge
As you hopefully are aware, Solid Edge has the tremendous ability to import (and modify) foreign geometry from both native file types and several neutral formats. Opening a SolidWorks part, an AutoCAD drawing, or a Pro-Engineer assembly is as easy as File > Open and selecting the file. However, have you ever tried opening an Inventor file...and failed?
For Inventor files, you need to install a free plugin here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/index?id=10535296&siteID=123112
Once you install it, you will be able to open Inventor files using the regular File > Open command in Solid Edge. Depending on the version of Solid Edge you are using, you may need to try an earlier release if the 2015 version does not work. Now, you can seamlessly work with Inventor files that you receive or download from suppliers or customers and begin adding intelligence to the model for faster revisions and better reuse of data.
