Once again IMTS has come and gone! It happens every other year in the United States. All of the players in the manufacturing industry come to showcase their best products and the newest and emerging technologies that they have been researching and developing. People from all around the world come to visit the show in hopes of finding a new technology or process that may help improve their business and the quality of their products.
I spent half a week with Siemens PLM helping them showcase NX CAD, NX CAM and NX CMM. At the Siemens PLM Booth, we had several interesting people stop by. Many hailing from countries like Australia, England, Turkey, Japan, Germany, and Switzerland just to name a few.
I have worked in manufacturing for 10 years and have been to smaller technology shows before, but I have never seen anything like IMTS. Anything and everything that is manufacturing was there; even things that you may have never thought of or imagined was possible were there.
I spent a day just walking around looking at all of what IMTS had to offer. I was mostly interested in what all of the machine tool and inspection vendors were showcasing. While I was walking around the South Wing, checking out at all of the new machining centers, I felt like a kid in a candy store. It’s quite amazing how technology has advanced in the last few years. Many of the machines there can manufacture very complex parts in a single machine setup. One thing that I was very excited to see was the new Mori Seiki LASERTEC 65 Additive/Subractive Manufacturing Center. That machine can laser sinter metal and then machine it down! Technology like that is going to change manufacturing as we know it.
I am looking forward to going back for the next show to see what even bigger and better technologies are up and coming!
